Mount Longonot National Park is a stunning destination located Southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. The park is primarily known for its striking volcanic crater, which offers visitors a unique combination of natural beauty, wildlife, and outdoor adventure.
Hiking the Crater
After pickup from guest's locations in Naivasha, Nakuru and Nairobi, Guests start with a 3.1 kilometers hike up the mountain starting from the entrance to the crater rim. At the top, guests have the option of taking the shorter route to the summit or going around the whole rim (7.2 kilometers). The gate elevation is around 2150 m and the peak at 2776 m but following the jagged rim involves substantially more than the 630 m vertical difference.
Wildlife Viewing
The park is home to various wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, and different species of birds. You may spot these animals during your hike or while exploring the area around the crater.
Birdwatching
Mount Longonot is a great spot for birdwatching, with over 100 species of birds recorded in the area, including various raptors and waterfowl.
Scenic Views
From the summit and along the trails, you’ll get sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Rift Valley, nearby lakes, and a variety of wildlife. The park offers both dramatic volcanic landscapes and lush greenery, especially around the crater.
