Kindly note that this backpacking trip is not luxury and utilizes affordable accommodation, and means of transport. Feel free to request any luxury services at your own cost. Additionally, some of the activities like game drives and accommodation (backpacker’s hostels, budget camps, camping, and guest houses) will be cost-shared based on the availability of groups. The excluded meals allow guests to explore local cuisines in restaurants around them.

 

Day 1 (Nairobi-Narok-Camp)

We leave Nairobi downtown for Narok Town at 8:00 am using public transport shuttles (arrive at bus station at 7:00 am). Guests make their way to the pickup point using Uber at their own cost (specific bus pickup location to be communicated upon booking).

 

At Narok town, we take a public transport bush taxi to our camp, where we will spend the night waiting for a half-day game drive the next day.

 

Mode of transport: Matatu (public transport Shuttle) or bus and bush taxis

Accommodation: Budget Camp (Miti Mingi or similar)

Meals: Lunch & Dinner

 

Day 2 (Camp-Masai Mara National Reserve-Nairobi)

Wake up early to prepare for a 6:00 am, checkout after breakfast and departure to Masai Mara National Reserve for a half day game drive with packed lunch. During the game drive, expect to get up close with the big 5 including lions, buffalos, rhinos, elephants, and leopards. After the half day game drive, we make our way back to Narok town using public transport bush taxis, then back to Nairobi where we spend the night in a backpacker hostel.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

 

Day 3 (Nairobi-Amboseli-Nairobi)

Leave Nairobi at around 4:00 am for a trip to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is a 4-5 hrs. drive from Nairobi. The park is known for its huge herds of elephants and great views of the Mount Kilimanjaro on clear sky days. The park also has other animals including lions, buffaloes, wildebeest, etc. Stop by a restaurant for lunch as we make our way back to Nairobi.

Day 4 (Nairobi-Arusha)

Leave Nairobi for Arusha at 8:00 am (get to the bus stop at 7:00 am, pickup location to be sent upon booking). The drive takes approx. 8hrs depending on the traffic at the border. We check into a backpacker’s hostel or guest house in Arusha awaiting the next day to start our Serengeti Safari.

Tanzania

For the Tanzania Serengeti Park and Ngorongoro Crater Trip, we will be utilizing tourist vehicle travel and budget camping accommodation on full board meals.

Day 5 (Arusha to Serengeti)

After an early breakfast, we are picked up by a driver-guide and drive from Arusha to Serengeti National Park. Here, we experience the endless open plains and stunning skies of the Serengeti during the game drive. The drive is approximately 7 hours. We arrive at Seronera Campsite for dinner and overnight stay, and be ready for the next day.

Day 6 (Central Serengeti-Ngorongoro Crater)

After an early breakfast, enjoy a sunrise game drive on the Serengeti plains. This drive offers the best opportunity to see lions, leopards, and other predators in action. The Serengeti offers a stunning sight as the rising sun seems to light a fire in the savannah.

Once in Serengeti, enjoy a picnic lunch on a small hill in an overall flat area. After lunch at the picnic area, it’s time to explore the endless plains of Serengeti en route to Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 (Arusha Drop-off)

After breakfast, we begin an excursion to the Ngorongoro Crater, considered by many to be the Eighth Wonder of the World.

The Ngorongoro Crater is home to a variety of species including the Big Five and one of the prime destinations in the world. It’s the best place to spot the endangered black rhinoceros. Enjoy a meal close to the hippo pool, which offers a great view of the lake and the large number of hippos enjoying the cool water.

From the comfort of your open-roof 4x4 Land Cruiser (safari vehicle), you can photograph and observe some of the most recognizable faces. Ngorongoro is home to a good number of predators, including lions (Simba), leopards, wildebeests (nyumbu), zebras, antelopes, Cape buffalos, and many more.

 

The Ngorongoro Crater excursion will take us towards Arusha Town, Airport, or bus stop for drop off where our trip ends.
